Since some weeks I’m learning Objective-C and the cocoa framework. I would prefer to stay in rubyland (I think ruby opens up incredible possibilities, and would really like to see it adopted more widely), but if I plan to code for Mac and iPhone I at least should know how Objective-C works. I’m still at the very beginnings of my journey to the fabolous world of nice windows, accelerometer-based controls and multitough gestures, I’m even far from doing something useful (probably because the only computer I have at the moment is a Pentium 4 with 256 MByte Ram.. adn thus I really cant bring myself to do some programming on it, since everything is so damn slow..), but I already saw the beauty of Objective-C.

Like mentioned before, I speak ruby. I like the idea that a high-level language takes care of all the bookkeeping, of all the non-buisness logic, and lets you focus on the real implementation (and here Java and Aspect-J already go a long way, as would C#, but I have no experience with the latter), and if I can choose I will always opt for the latter (having IronRuby working on the iPhone would make my day). Cleary, in my spare time I have nothing against programmin in assembly (Sometimes I even do it just for fun), brainfuck or even whitespace (latter is clearly hilarious to play around with), but when I have to get things done, I like to have powerful tools at my disposal, and I think ruby gets the job done in a really good way. Now that I’m seeing how Objective-C handles things, I think we have found a good golden mean: it offers most of the possibilities that a high-level language offers, without loosing control. Clearly, we#re far from a perfect language, but I can totally see why Objective-C is so widely used and accepted. For now i just tried my programs in virtualized Macs (and, as mentioned above, with my current PC that means I have a shitload of patience), but I’m planning to organize some Hackintosh (a real Mac is way beyond my budget) on which I can play around.

The only thing that bothers me is how to get Objective-C / cocoa applications cross-platform compatible and more secure (I’m still very new to secure coding). As soon as I find a way to achieve both of the above, there will be some nice tools I have in mind, so stay tuned!

So, in school they teach us many diffrent writing techniques, many styles, idea colelcting styles, and everything possible along those lines. Theoretically we are prepared for at least basic journalistic writing, for letter writing, and so on. They tought us many great rules and important sentences, but one of the most frequents is: “You must write for the readers. have the reader in mind, and write for him. It does not matter wheter it’s yourself, a single person, a group of persons or what ever it could be.” What they did not prepare us for: what if you write somethign but nobody reads it? What if there is NO reader? How do you write? For who do you write?

Partiamo dall’inizio. Tempo fa ho perso il mio dominio ramsesoriginal.org, il che mi ha demoralizzato molto, e in seguito ho quasi abbandonato questo blog. Ora pian pianino sto di nuovo iniziando a usare questo blog, e postare (piú o meno) regolarmente. Ora stavo, come ho giá fatto spesso prima, analizzando gli accessi al sito. Bhe, chiaramente c’é stato un drop incredibile di visite quando ho perso il mio dominio (qualcosa come 1/1000 di visite ora.. avevo un pagerank niente male). Oltre a questo ho notato una cosa interessante: fino ad agosto dell’anno scorso, la maggior parte della gente che arrivava qui era in cerca di pornografia, richieste legali riguardanti youporn, oppure informazioni su come scaricare i video dal suddetto sito (oltre che informazioni riguardanti certi fetish .. ehm.. un po.. preoccupanti) . Ebbene, da agosto a metá ottobre c’é stato un movimento incredibile degli interessi (almeno da quel che risulta dai miei log): per un breve periodo le informazioni sul mercato immobiliare erano molto ricercate, sopratutto sulla fluttuazione dei costi e su quando torneranno alti, e se torneranno alti. E dopo siamo passati ad avere una maggioranza di richieste su 3 temi: come diventari ricchi lavorando poco, come trasportare droga e informazioni riguardo alle bucce di banana secche. Visto che tutti e 3 i post sono piuttosto datati, credo sia arrivata l’ora di aggiornare i post, quindi aspettatevi un paio di post su questi temi nel futuro prossimo.

Peró trovo interessante il cambiamento di interessi: finché l’economia era a posto, la gente cercava pornografia. Appena le cose anno iniziato ad andare male, la gente é migrata verso temi che li riguardavano piú direttamente (anche se chiaramente, non dimentichiamo la regola 34: c’é chi combina le cose). Questo quasi quasi mi da una speranza che internet man mano diventi sempre piú anche uno strumento per “sopravvivere”, e non solo per cercare immagini osé di Fergie, anche per la gente che non ha un background informatico.

E vorrei concludere dicendo che, combinando droga, pornografia, banane e diventare ricchi lavorando poco si raggiungono delle frasi molto divertenti.. alcune delle quali sono reperibili nei miei log delel ricerche. La frase migliore trovata? “Come ricevere soldi per infilarsi banane nell’ano mentre fumo crack“. Fantastico. C’é gente che mi fa paura, in giro..

Cretive Commons

I just discovered a service that might intrest you (especially if oyu have a band). It’s called Tunecore (you can find it on http://www.tunecore.com/), and basically a service where you pay a small yearly fee (as low as 20$ is already a good plan), and you will get some services, like for example upload to various online music stores (amazon, iTunes, and many more), publicity, maybe even soem concerts, and much more. And as a bonus, since today, they even offer you the ability to use Universal Music’s services (yes, the real thing, one of the big 6 music majors), like professional remastering, the possibility to get to play at the real big events, and so on. You will keep the whole copyrights, you just buy some services. I just tought you might be intrested.

Ok, after the prising it, just a few considerations from my side: I would recommend also putting the music on some “free” sites, like last.fm and grooveshark (there are maaany more, those two are the biggest ones, and they are great, chek them out!), maybe even some video on youtube. This way you get some “free” publicity, and your fans can listen to the music and if they like it and want it on their iPods (or Zunes, Walkmans, whatever), they can buy it on one of the many stores.

And the last and biggest advice on my side: use a Creative Commons license (http://creativecommons.org/license/). There are many variations, with different variations, but summing it up it allows fans to remix the music, make videos, or even just use it as a ringtone. It’s a way to let your fans listen to your music without giving up your rights or criminalizing your fans (having a song as ringtone when more then 6 persons can hear it means you just committed a crime under standard copyright). I would recommend a CC 3.0 by-nc-sa license ( http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/ ), it means: If you got this song, you can reuse it, remix it, remaster it, create derivate work, as long as it’s not commercial and you attribute the original creator. It’s a great way to distribute your music.

While studying for my Project Management course, I tried to apply its rules and classifications to the “AFK” life.. and I must say, I think I must redesign my life architecture, since the conclusions where surprising.. Just the license agreement seems to be problematic.. The best thing would be the find a cross-licensed alternative. Any ideas?

• • Love Marriage: Resembles procedural programming language. We have some set functions like flirting, going to movies together, making long conversations on phone and then try to fit all functions to the candidate we like.
  • Arranged Marriage: Similar to object oriented programming approach. We first fix the candidate and then try to implement functions on her. The main object is fixed and various functions are added to supplement the main program. The functions can be added or deleted.
• • Love Marriage: It is a throwaway type of prototype as client requirements rises with time thus it is a dynamic system and difficult to maintain.
  • Arranged Marriage: Requirements are well defined so use of waterfall model is possible.

Why infect Computers?

This weekend I made a small experiment: I set up a small Karmetasploit box, and let it run for 48 hours. I assure you that I  formatted the box, thus removing all logged and collected data, after a quick look. I just wanted to see how such a setup would do in a “urban” environment. Well, looking at the results I got, i decided that infecting a computer with some sort of malaware is the dumbest thing to do if you want to have access to it: of 317 collected “personas”, only 3 didn’t have the same password for all places. Only 5 had a password that where not name, birthdate or a combination of both. A small script that scanned the conencted computers has shown that most of them (i think 280 or something like that) used a “unpatched” version of windows, that means, no update installed since january. Most of them had Windows xp with sp2, some even sp1. 20 even responded to sub7, what drove me crazy: there are still people using it? Woooowww…

The best surprise I got was the browsers listing: 23 Chrome / Chromium, 21 Safari, 17 Opera, 54 Internet Exploder and the rest all Firefox (ok, some had really ancient versions… 1.4 anyone?). From a security perspective that’s not that intersting, but from a web design perspective this confirms my suspicion that Firefox has a wide penetration in home users, just corporate computers didn’t get the memo.

Summing up: don’t infect Computer, just connect to them, it’s easy. The security problem is between keyboard and chair.

La nostra sicurezza: biforcuta

Riprendendo i dieci punti principali da polisblog, ecco le mie considerazioni sul pacchetto sicurezza:

• Ronde: trovo l’idea delel ronde una stupidaggine. Inanzitutto un gruppo di gente che si sente “protettore della cittá” di certo tende a sentirsi al di sopra della legge.  Essendo in gruppo, si perdono le inibizione ed eventuali cariche su gruppi che potrebbero apparire a membri del gruppo “sospetti” non saranno di certo inusuali. Anche se non autorizzati, chiaramente ci saranno delle armi che circoleranno nei gruppi, da semplici coltelli fino ad armi da fuoco.  E parlando di armi, anche i modi di trasporto: nel “centro storico” di una cittá andare a piedi va di certo bene, ma in zone industriali prevedo che non mancherá molto finché non gireranno in colonne di macchine oppure furgoncini: di nuovo, inebriati dal potere, ho paura che dei scenari tipo “gang-war” saranno piuttosto comuni. Inoltre ci sono giá vari servizi di sicurezza privati (p.es. qui a Bolzano la Ronda Atesina, Citypol, SafeCity, etc). La gente che vi lavora ha almeno una educazione basilare nel campo della sicurezza, ci sono delle regole precise e i team come anche le infrastrutture sono giá presenti. Inoltre, essendo ditte private, il libero mercato si occupa di filtrare chi puó esercitare questo ruolo, quindi non c’é bisogno di sprecare le (giá fin troppo scarse) risorse comunali per controllare le rende. Quindi, secondo me, sarebbe meglio magari subappaltare la sicurezza di vari quartieri ai istituti di sicurezza privata, piúttosto che lasciare girare per cittá gruppi di gente che si sente supereroe e che magari partecipa spernado di avere un po di “action”. Se posso citare Bruce Schneier: “If you ask amateurs to do security, you will get amateurish security”.
• Clandestinitá: la clandestinitá, per quel che ne so io, era giá reato. Avere delel leggi ridondanti non é solo uno spreco di risorse, ma alza pure il rischio di contraddizioni e quindi di possibiltá di farla franca. Invece di ripetere le stesse leggi ancora ed ancora ed ancora, sarebbe molto meglio applicarle le leggi, visto che se non applicate, anche le leggi piú perfette sono inutili
• Stop alle nozze di comodo: concordo in parte con questa idea. Le nozze di comodo sono certamente un problema, e questa é una possibile soluzione. è molt osimile al modello giapponese, dove per i prime 5 anni si riceve uno speciale permesso di soggiorno coniugale, che non deve essere rinnovato cosí spesso. Non conosco i dettagli della legge, ma a prima vista direi che non é nietne male.
• Carcere per chi affitta ai calndestini: pessima idea. Oltre a di nuovo dare a dei dilettanti il compito di occuparsi di sicurezza, si rischia che per paura la gente smetta di affittare a immigrati, non solo a clandestini. Gli mmigrati regolari, non avendo piú appartamento, perdono il permesso di soggiorno, ed i clandestini si aggirano per le cittá, creano tendopoli, ed andranno ad occupare appartamenti e cantine. Oltre che abitare da chi affitta lo stesso, senza sapere che si tratta di clandestini, oppure da chi affitta in nero. Parlando di quest’ultima opzione, l’affitto in nero é giá un broblema, vogliamo sul serio allargarlo incentivando la gente ad affittare in nero perché gli inquilini sono clandestini?
• Prolungamento nei tempi del Cie: di nuovo, non conosco i dettagli, e nemmeno i dettagli delle procedure, ma a rigor di logica, invece di prolungare la durata, sarebbe meglio sfruttare il Cie in modo piú produttivo: come direbbe il prof. Wild (qui alla FUB), per alzare l’efficenza possiamo parallelizzarare ed aprire piú corsie parallele oppure velocizzare il processo alzando il throughput. Applicarei principi del lean development al processo di richesta d’asilo di certo non sarebbe la piú cattiva idea del mondo anzi: eliminare tutto ció che non crea valore nel corso di tutto il processo sarebbe la strada giusta da seguire.
• Spray al peperoncino: devo dire che sono d’accordo. Lo spray al peperoncino é un ottima misura di difesa personale, chiaramente non letale, e facile da usare senza troppi rischi (non mi risulta ci sia stato qualche pazzo che abbia ucciso gente con lo spray al peperoncino). E come in molti altri casi, é meglio trovare una soluzione e regolarla che vietare tutto e lasciare che la gente di nascosto trovi una soluzione, di conseguenza ilelgale e quindi non regolamentata. La menzione delel ronde mi pare un po fuori luogo: se é legale per tutti, lo é per tutti, e le ronde sono normali cittadini, quindi perché menzionarle? Ed un altro manco che mi rsulta é la mancanza di dettagli: chi lo vende, ed a chi? Consiglierei la vendite oslo in negozi specializzati oppure farmacie, in modo che ci sia un venditore esperto del campo che sappia spiegare l’suo corretto, i rischi, e che giudichi la persona che lo compra.
• Registro dei senzatetto: non c’era ancora? Ottima idea, concordo pienamente. Non solo offre almeno una forma basilare di controllo dei gruppi di senzatetto, ma offre anche la possibiltá ad eventuali organizzazioni caritative di sapere dove trovare eventuali aventi diritto ai loro servizi. Conoscendo un paio di senzatetto, e parlandoci, tutti si sono mostrati piú o meno felici di questa soluzione.
• Pene inasprite per i graffitari: inanzitutto non capiso che centri con un pacchetto sicurezza. Solo perché la maggior parte di chi ha delle yacht é un evasore fiscale non significa che per combattere l’evasione dobbiamo vietare le yacht. Si, é vero, spesso i graffiti vengono fatti senza autorizzazione, e a volte esplicitamente ocn lo scopo di fare vandalismo. Ma come primo punto suggerirei la distinzione fra graffiti e tag: una tag rovina uno spazio pubblico, e non lo arrichisce in nessun sneso ,anche se é una tag bellissima ed elaborata. Graffiti invece sono opere d’arte uniche, ed indipendentemente dalla bellezza o bruttezza dell’immagine, arrichiscono gli spazi pubblici che decorano. Chiaramente si puó trattare di immagini offensive, di immagine non adatte ad ogni pubblico, oppure semplicemente di cattivo gusto, ma per immagini offensive, non adatte ad un pubblico minorenne, etc.. ci sono giá leggi che regolano il tutto.  Per esempio quando hanno aperto un cantiere vicino all’universitá, alcuni studenti di design hanno decorato il cantiere con graffiti. Ora abbiamo un oera d’arte invece dei soliti teli arancioni. è un arrichimento gratuito per la societá, una forma di espressione libera ed una valvola di sfogo, quindi vietare categoricamente graffiti é una pessima idea, secondo me. È un po come dire “vietiamo le droghe”.. ehm.. ok.. spettate un momento..
• Oltraggio a pubblico ufficiale: secondo me é un ottima cosa. Fin troppo spesso la gente non mostra il rispetto dovuto per le forze dell’ordine che, nonostante tutto, rischiano la loro vita per noi (e come sempre ci sono un paio di pecorelle nere che rovinano la reputazione a tutti)
• Stop ai bambini-mendicanti: … ma non cerano giá le leggi contro lo sfruttamento di bambini, contro il mendicare senza licenza, contro il lavoro in nero, ….

Oltre a questi comemtni, mi interesserebbero i cambiamenti al 41 bis, che secondo me avranno un grande impatto sulla lotta antimafia (e purtroppo negativo, da quel che mi risulta..)

I don’t know why, but I just feel like saying it.

Actually, I know why. Today, for the first time, I failed a friend. Not just once, but twice. And even though in both cases there was a reason for it, I regret them both. And I wish I could change what I did. Probably they didn’t even notice it, or realize it, but it’s eating me up from the inside. I’m feeling hollowed out. I’m feeling.. unworthy. I wish such a situation will never repeat itself. I am not going to allow it to happen.

and I hate it to repeat stuff, but thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. And yes, I mean YOU. There are few people that I count as my friends, but the crazy few that I do count, they deserve all the best in the world. Good luck, and thank you again.

Leggo due notizie su ansa.it che mi fanno un po pensare che tutto il sistema delle ferrovie dello stato sia un po buggato: la prima dice che tornano i controllori sui treni regionali: e chi erano quei simpatici signori, sempre ed esclusivamente con scorta di almeno due carabinieri, che percorrevano il treno, e controllavano se gli apparentemente stranieri, preferibilmente extracomunitari, non hanno biglietto?

E la seconda, anche riguardante i biglietti: non ci saranno piú biglietti senza posto assegnato. Quindi chiunque fa un biglietto, sa giá dove potrá sedersi, ma questo comporta un problema: tutti gli scolari/studenti che hanno un abbonamento tipo Abo+, e quindi non devono obliterare, e non devono neanche procurarsi un biglietto per ogni corsa, dove si siedono? Sono costretti a viaggiare in piedi? Oppure negli scompartimenti fra i vagoni? Oppure ci diamo tutti al train riding?

Secondo me é una pessima idea, e ci saranno tantissimi problemi, sopratutto le domeniche sere e i sabati a mezzogiorno. E spero che si facciano venire in mente una soluzione, oppure per beccare un posto da stare seduti mi tocca fare un biglietto, nonstante paghi giá 150€ annui per la possibilitá di poter semplicemente salire su un treno e viaggiarci?

This thinking applies everywhere: from penetration testing to giving a friend some advises on how to fix his model plane, from driving someone somewhere to preventing your friends from doing stupid stuff while drunk.

In many situations, in which we have to help somebody, give some suggestion, or simply interact with somebody, there are many possibilities, and some of them have obvious outcomes (at least to us). In some special cases, we KNOW we have to behave in a given way. We KNOW it’s the right choice, the right advice, the right help. We KNOW it’s the best for them, and as a consequence of that, we WANT to do that. But our subconscious, it’s not dumb. It KNOWS that another thing would bring great benefit to us personally, be it access to the small backdoor you found on the bank’s computer network, a free beer, vendetta or even just the satisfaction of being right.  Clearly we do the thing that’s best for our friend/client/other person, but, and be sincere with yourself here, does it happen that you leave some backhole, some open possibility, not knowingly, but can it be that you let some unknown that leaves open the possible evolution of the situation from which you benefit? Do we really do the BEST possible solution, or do we do the best minus something solution? How much does the subconscious influence our decision? How much does our inner egoist influence our decision? Are we really consciously controlling 100% of our decisions? I must admit that, thinking back on some of my decisions, my advises, my helps, I left some sort of hole that I knew of.. not knowingly, but without any “reasonable” explaination. Does that make me a evil person? Or is this natural? How much subconscious can we let into our decision without surrendering to it?

Hand aufs Herz: wer hat nicht mal, unbewusst, bei einem Tipp, einer Hilfe oder einem Ratschlag, ein Hintertürchen offen gelassen, dass zwar keine schlimmen Folgen hat, aber eine mögliche Entwicklung der Situation ermöglicht, in der man selber davon profitiert, und nicht nur der dem geholfen wird? Obwohl wir wussten, dass es eigentlich (erwähnte ich bereits das “eigentlich” eigentlich ein komisches Wort ist?)  auch eine bessere Lösung geben würde? Unser unterbewusstsein, unserer innerer egoist, sie beinflussen ständig unser Handeln. Aber wie sehr? Wie sehr kann man “instinktiv” entscheiden, wie wenig darf unser Unterbewusstsein mitreden, ohne das man ein Egoist ist? Ich muss rückblickend gestehen, das ich manchmal Hintertürchen offen gelassen habe.. im Moment erschien mir nicht das dem so sei, doch de facto war es so. Bin ich also ein egoist? Lasse ich mich von meinem Unterbewusstsein steuern?
